KITCHENER, Ont. - The Dorchester U14A Dragons are provincial champions.

Dorchester capped a dominant season capturing gold at the Ringette Ontario championships, March 12-15.

The Dragons defeated the Sault Ice Hawks, 4-1, in the final, capping a 4-1 tournament, following a regular season in the Lower Ontario Ringette League (LORL), with a record of 19-0-1.

"The success the last couple years for this team comes from the strong work ethic and positive culture created by head coach Ian McDonald," coach Nicole Lindsay said. "The girls work hard for themselves, but most importantly for each other. The athletes know the coaching staff will never be upset at any mistake they make as long as it is made at full speed. The girls all bought in and it showed at every single practice and every single game. The positive culture makes the difference on any team."

It was all Dragons in the final, building a 4-0 lead, before the Sault Ice Hawks scored in the final two minutes of the game.

Laine Robinson led the Dragons with two goals and an assist, while Quinn Stier had a pair of goals and Quinn McDonald and Darwynne Dowsett, two assists each. Anya Kucharski also picked up an assist.

Goalie Aubrey Forrester was named tournament MVP.

The win in the final avenged the Dragons only loss of the tournament, 3-2, during pool play.

"Everyone buys into the mantra that it is amazing what a team can achieve when no one cares who gets the credit," said coach Nicole Lindsay. "We have an incredibly strong goalie in Aubrey Forrester. In front of her we have very strong defence, and our offence know their roles and have the determination to cause numerous turnovers and create strong scoring opportunities."

Dorchester kicked off the eight team tier one event, downing West Ottawa, 5-1. Robinson potted four goals, after Molly Badder opened the scoring.

Forrester had her first of two shutouts and Robinson, Badder, McDonald and Steir, scored in a 4-0 blanking of Arnprior.

Ava MacDonald had the game winner, in the Dragons' 2-1 edging of St. Marys. Dorchester trailed 1-0 after one period, before Robinson tied the affair, assisted by Stier.

Badder and Robinson both had a goal and one assist, as Dorchester shut out Forest, 3-0. Lexi Hudson also scored, with Avery Czupryna, McDonald and Kucharski, each drew single assists.

Robinson had both goals in the Dragons' lone loss to the Sault, in a game that decided first place in the pool.

In a wild semifinal, Stier caught fire with four goals and one assist, leading Dorchester over Timmins, 8-5.

Robinson had a goal and three assists, Hudson bulged twine twice and Czupryna chipped in with a goal. McDonald had three helpers, while MacDonald, Frankie Cupello and Veronica Austin each drew one assist.

"The team works so hard in practices, games, power skating, and fitness throughout the season," said Lindsay. "It was definitely a goal with this group at the start of the season to win Provincials and they (players) really put in the work to make that happen."

U19A silver

Dorchester took silver at the U19A tournament, falling to West Ottawa, 2-0, in the gold game.

The Dragons finished 4-2-1, with both losses to West Ottawa.
