DORCHESTER, Ont. - The Dorchester Beavers and Parkside Stampeders will clash for the Thames Valley Region Athletics SouthEast AA girls soccer title.
Megan McLachlin struck twice, including late in the second half, to lift the Beavers over the East Elgin Eagles, 2-1, today in the semifinals.
"East Elgin played a really strong game and their forwards had a lot of really good shots," said McLachlin, who had the Beavs up 1-0 at half-time. "It was a bit more stressful than the regular season game (5-0 Beavers win). They played their best game and we just had to play our game. We had to realize that we were playing well and they did have some momentum."
Colbie Farr replied for the Eagles.
Eagles keeper Kate MacInniss made a number of saves keeping the game a one goal affair. Next year, MacInnis is off to Wheeling University in West Virginia.
McLachlin was the only one to beat MacInniss, the winner on a one on one challenge.
"I was thinking it was either front post or back post and it was looking she was more toward the front post," McLachlin said. "I figured maybe she wanted to go back post, so I tucked it on where I could front post. It happened to go in my favour."
At Athletic Park in St. Thomas, Quinn Travis and Kennedy Lawrence scored in the Stampeders' 2-1, edging of St. Joseph's Rams, in their semifinal.
Ruby Steen had the Rams' goal.
The SouthEast final is May 19.
Both the Beavs (5-0-1) and Stamps (5-1-1), also qualify for WOSSAA, May 27 in Stratford.
No doubt with their string of six consecutive trips to OFSAA (with two years of no soccer due to COVID in there), the first place Beavers are favoured.
"It's really good to have a battle going into WOSSAA," said McLachlin, who has been to OFSAA three times. "We just worry about our game. We have a great coach, Andreas Nolte. He gives all the tools we have in our tool bag. Although we've been to OFSAA every year, it's a new year and we can't let what happened in the past dictate our game."
The West Elgin Wildcats (4-1-1) will see the London Christian Pioneers (1-4-1), in a TVRA 1-A semifinal, noon on May 19 at City Wide Fields.
The other 1-A semi is Strathroy Holy Cross (3-3-0) against Gabriel-Dumont (3-2-1). Regular season records should be tossed aside, because London Christian and Holy Cross played in the top Central division.
