TILLSONBURG, Ont. - The Central Elgin Titans and Parkside Stampeders both won two divisional titles, at Thames Valley Region (TVRA) South senior badminton tournament April 10 at Glendale high school.
Titans' Reina Walters repeated as the South winner, while Philipp Ludwig and Janay Gillard won mixed doubles.
Parkside's Ty Titchner and Damon Fish took the boys doubles title, while Kade Kewley and Anesa Lumani won girls doubles.
Glendale's Om Vyas took the boys singles crown.
At the East Division tournament in Woodstock, Dorchester Beavers Tyler Michiels (photo) repeated as boys singles champ. Dorchester's Max Graham and Joe Howey captured the boys doubles title.
The top four in each of the five divisions, from both the South and East tournaments, move on to the South-East championships, at Woodstock Huron Park, Thursday, April 16th.
Senior WOSSAA is at London Saunders, Thursday, April 23.

EDMONTON, Alta. - Eve Buczkowski (photo) had a Canadian championship to remember.
The 17-year old from Talbotville brought home seven medals, including a gold and two silvers, from the junior women's division at the Canadian cycling track championships, March 27-29, at the Alberta Velodrome.
In indivudal events, Buczkowski captured silver in both the 15-kilometre points race and elimination race and bronzes in the junior women's individual pursuit and the 7.5-kilogram scratch races
Buczkowski with Alex Fangeat of St. Thomas, together as Full Throttle Express, took bronze in the madison.
Buczkowski, Fangeat, Izzy Downing of London and Lili Salonen-Berscht, won team pursuit gold.
Fangeat also won silver in the junior women's pursuit and placed fourth in the elimination, fifth in the points race and ninth in the scratch race.
Ben Buczkowski picked up bronze medals in the team pursuit and team sprint. In individual events, Ben had a pair of top five resuts, fourth in elimination and fifth in points. Ben also was eighth in three events, the scratch race, keirin and individual pursuit nd 10t in the 500-metre time trial.
Eve Buczkowski may have been cyclist of the meet, if not for Elodie Malois and her seven gold medals, winning every race entered, except one, the team pursuit.

ST. THOMAS - A reverse sweep has the St. Thomas Jr Stars the Alliance League U18A champions.
Kaje Thorogood scored in overtime lifting St Thomas to a 3-2 win against the London Jr. Knights White in game seven of the final.
The Jr. Knights led 2-0 on a pair of short-handed goals three minutes a part in the firt period.
Owen Ayers put the Stars on the board in the second period, before Thorogood tied the affair on a third period power play.
The game reflected the series, with St. Thomas falling behind.
London was one win away from a sweep of the final, with a three games to none lead.
St. Thomas refused to feel the broom with victories of 3-2, 6-4 and 4-3, tying the series.
The Stars advance to the Ontario Hockey Federation (OHF) championship in April.

ST. THOMAS - The St. Thomas Jr. Stars are Alliance U14 A/AA Constellation champs.
St. Thomas completed a three game sweep of the Kitchener Jr Rangers in the final, with a 5-2 win tonight at the Joe.
Tied a two mid second period, the Stars scored three unanswered goals, by Andrew Muylaert, Deakon Da Costa and Muylaert again late in the third period
Jack Lynch had both the Stars first two goals.
In game one, Da Costa with two goals and Quinn Humphreys scored in a 3-1 win.
Down 2-0 in game two, St. Thomas rallied for a 3-2 win in overtime on a goal from Kai Kapogianis. Da Costa and Colton Poore also score for the Jr. Stars.
The semifinals offered a tougher challenge as St. Thomas needed all five games to oust Woodstock.

KITCHENER,Ont. - The Dorchester U14A Dragons are provincial champions.
Dorchester capped a dominant season capturing gold at the Ringette Ontario championships, March 12-15.
The Dragons defeated the Sault Ice Hawks, 4-1, in the final.
It was all Dragons building a 4-0 lead, before the Sault Ice Hawks scored in the final two minutes of the game.
Laine Robinson led the Dragons with two goals and an assist, while Quinn Stier had a pair of goals and Quinn McDonald and Darwynne Dowsett, two assists each. Anya Kucharski also picked up an assist.
Goalie Aubrey Forrester was named tournament MVP.
The win avenged their only loss compiling a 5-1 record.
Dorchester rolled through their regular season in the Lower Ontario Ringette League (LORL), with a record of 19-0-1.
Dorchester took silver at the U19A tournament, falling to West Ottawa, 2-0, in the gold game.
The Dragons finished 4-2-1, with both losses to West Ottawa.
Advancing to the final qualifies Dorchester for the Eastern Canadian U19 championships, next month in Mississauga.

KITCHENER,Ont. - The Parkside Stampeders accomplished a lot at their first OFSAA girls volleyball in 25 years.
There was no medal brought home, but the Stampeders compiled a 5-2 record and played on all three days of the provincial high school tournament, March 9-11 at Conestoga College.
Closing out their tournament was a three games to none loss to Mississauga Lorne Park in the OFSAA AA consolation final.
Parkside placed 10th overall.
On the consolation bracket, Parkside beat Manitoulin in the quarters and Port Perry in the semifinals.

WINNIPEG, Man. - AJ Stanat has repeated as the U-Sports men's shot put champion.
Stanat threw an event best 18.24 metre throw to win the competition at U-Sports, the Canadian university track and field championships Saturday.
All three of Stanat's measured throws, including 17.74m thrown in round one and 17.95m, were further than silver medalist Sander Sampson's best of 17.09 metres.
Stanat also had three fouls.
On day two Friday, Stanat placed fourth in men's weight throw.
Hallee Knelsen from Malahide, with the Western Mustangs, finished fourth in the women's 1000 metres in a time of two minutes and 47 seconds (2:47.00).
Knelsen was part of Mustangs women's 4x400-metre relay team that placed fifth and the 4x800-metre relay that was seventh (9:02.16).
On day one Thursday, Knelsen placed eighth in the women's 600m, missing qualifying for the final by two positions.
Anij Sparenberg of St. Thomas, with Western, was seventh in women's shot put (12.63m). Teammate Liv Sands won gold with an U-Sports record 17.67 metre throw.
Brianna Rand of Dorchester with Western, placed 12th in women's triple jump (10.37m).
In the men's 4x800-metre relay race, Vincent Moore of St. Thomas, with Western finished eighth, while Mason Basson from Sparta, and the Guelph Gryphons was ninth.

PETERBOROUGH, Ont. - Central Elgin Titans Dollan Brown and St. Joseph's Rams Trish Ehichoya, are OFSAA silver medalists in wrestling.
Brown went 4-0, on way to the male 130-kilogram final against Manraj Sahota from Brampton St. Roch.
Ehichoya won three consecutive matches advancing to the female 115-kg gold match against Kayla-Jean Malcolm, from Sarnia St. Patrick's.
The pair of silver medalists led a group of 12 wrestlers at OFSAA, March 3-4, in Peterborough.
Central Elgin Titans Kendelle Scott finished fourth in the female 83-kg class, dropping her bronze medal match.
Placing fifth with 4-2 records were Parkside Stampeders Haevyn Bole, female 57.5, and Rams Nikola Vaessen, female 89.
Sixth place for two Rams females, Ava Adzija, in 61 and Flourish Nmor, 67.5.
Titans Devon Berehulka went 4-2 in a large male 67.5 division, but missed making the top six.
East Elgin Eagles Sydney Woodford, female 115, was 2-2, the same record for Titans Logan Finzgar (male 54).
Parkside's Jack Rice (male 47.50 and Max Muscat (male 57.5) both went 2-2, while Ryan Nash (male 72) was winless in three matches.

TORONTO - Nash Okkerse is a National indoor running champion at three distances.
Okkerse won the U16 boys 800, 1200 and 2000-metre races, at Athletics Canada Canadian indoor track and field championships, February 27 - March 1 at York University.
The St. Thomas native won the 2000 by by five seconds, in a personal best (PB) time of five minutes and 51 seconds (5:51.0).
Okkerse also set a PB in the 1200 and set club record for St. Thomas Legion (STL), in the 1200 and 2000.
Six athletes, including Okkerse, represeted STL at the meet
Breanne Sloetjes, in U20 women's, won silver in high jump, with an indoor PB of 1.68 metres and placed fifth in triple jump (11.08m), a new PB and club record.
Kaleb Charette took silver in U16 boys weight throw (PB 15.27m) and fifth in shot put (10.29m).
Henry Scott from Aylmer, took bronze in the U20 men's 200-metre sprint, in a PB and club recod time of 22.32 seconds.
The Grade 12 student at East Elgin Secondary, also finished seventh in the U20 men's 400m (50.52 sec.) and 13th in the 60m dash (7.05 sec.).
Will Downing of Dorchester finished fourth in the U18 boys 60-metre hurdles, lowering his PB and club record time to 8.17 seconds. Downing placed 36th in the 60m dash (7.53 sec.).
Amy Williamson was ninth in U18 women's long jump (4.72m) and ninth in triple jump (10.46m).
Danica Cober was 31st in the U20 women's 60m (8.17 sec.).

TORONTO, Ont. - Lily Sawyer will be playing against the best rugby female players her age.
Sawyer from St. Thomas and a Grade 10 student at Parkside CI, has been selected to play with Rugby Ontario's Junior Blues U16 girls, at the Vancouver Sevens Invitational, March 5-7 at B.C. Place.
The event presents a focus on development, competition and an opportunity to watch the international team Vancouver Sevens.
"The journey to where I am now has been exciting and I have learned a lot in less then a year with all my supportive teammates and coaches," Sawyer said. "I put in a lot of my time and hard work to get to where I am now."
Sawyer began her career in Grade nine with the Parkside Stampeders varsity girls, becoming a starter while helping the team win WOSSAA and qualify for OFSAA.
Named PCI Rookie of the Year, Sawyer has become known for her speed, power and athleticism, at the back and winger position.
Over the summer, Sawyer joined London St. George's Club, playing on their 15s and Sevens teams.
Sawyer was named MVP at the at Bellwether Sevens Club tournament in Brantford.
Last fall, Sawyer made the U15 Southwestern Ontario Sevens, an elite performance team, that will play in the Tropical Sevens tournament in Florida this April.
After attending Rugby Ontario combines at the Univesity of Guelph, Sawyer was selected for the Ontario Blues Development Academy, for both 15s and Sevens and has been training throughout the winter.
"I was interested in starting rugby because I was always very fast and I wanted to try something new in Grade nine," Sawyer said. "I put in a lot of my time and hard work to get to where I am now."

ST. THOMAS - A 25-year drought is over. The Parkside Stampeders are heading to OFSAA girls volleyball.
Parkside swept the WOSSAA AA senior girls volleyball gold medal match in three games, dustinf Stratford St. Mike's, 25-23, 25-18,25-13, Wednesday on home court.
The Stampeders return to OFSAA for the first time since 2001, when the team brought home a bronze medal.
In the semifinals, Parkside ousted London Central in three games, while St. Mike's beat Woodstock CI, three games to one.
WOSSAA AA junior host London South defeated Parkside in the bronze medal match.

LONDON, Ont. - Fourteen wrestlers are heading to OFSAA.
Six athletes won gold at Western Ontario Secondary Schools Athletic Association (WOSSAA) wrestling championships Friday at Saunders secondary school.
Parkside Stampeders Haevyn Bole captured her third consecutive WOSSAA title, pinning her opponent in less than a minute in the female 57.5-kilogram gold final.
Central Elgin Titans Kendelle Scott heads to her fourth OFSAA, taking gold in the female 83-kg class.
A year ago, an injury ended St. Joe's Rams' Ava Adzija's season just before TVRA. Twelve months later, Adzija returns to win female 61-kg gold and qualify for OFSAA.
Also standing a top the podium: Titans Devin Berehulka (male 67.5), Rams Trish Ehichoya (female 115) and Rams Manha Jaafi (female 38).
Taking silver medals were Central Elgin Titans Jon Janzen (male 38), Stampeders Jack Rice (male 47.5) and Max Muscat (male 57.5), Rams Nikola Vaessen (female 89) and Flourish Nmor (female 67.5) and East Elgin Eagles Sydney Woodford (female 115).
All weight class winners automatically qualify for OFSAA, the high school provincial championships, March 3-4 in Peterborough.
Placing second earns a spot at OFSAA, unless challenged by a wrestler who did not fight the second place athlete earlier in the meet. If a challenge match, the winner takes the spot for OFSAA.
Titans Logan Finzgar (male 54) and Dollan Brown (male 130) and Parkside's Ryan Nash (male 72) won challenge matches.

ST. THOMAS - It was a better feeling for the Parkside Stampeders this time around.
Led by a consistent attack and defence, the Stampeders defeated Woodtock CI Red Devils, three games to one (25-17, 20-25, 25-11, 25-22), to capture the TVRA SouthEast senior girls volleyball title Wednesday at Parkside CI.
A year ago, the Stampeders fell to Ingersoll, in a five game marathon match.
This year Parkside dusted Ingersoll in three straight game in the semifinals.
WCI came back from down two games to none, to stun the Dorchester Beavers (10-25, 24-26, 25-15, 25-8, 15-11)
Parkside finished the regular season 8-0, with WCI second at 7-1.
Both team advance to senior WOSSAA, Wednesday February 25 at Parkside.
London Central (TVRA Central winner) and most likely Stratford St. Mike's (Huron-Perth), will complete the WOSSAA field with Parkside and WCI.
Ingersoll took the junior title downing Parkside, three games to one, 15-25, 25-20, 25-11, 25-15. Both teams advance to WOSSAA.

LONDON, Ont. - Four Parkside Stampeders are Thames Valley Regional Athletics (TVRA) conference wrestling champions.
Max Muscat, male 57.5-kilograms and three females, Haevyn Bole (57.5), Hannah Anderson (61) and Abbey Harrison (47.5) won gold at the Charrette conference meet Friday at Central Secondary school.
A trio of Central Elgin Titans males, Dollan Brown (130), Logan Finzgar (54) and Devon Berehulka pinned down gold medals.
At the Michienzi conference, three St Joe's Rams ladies won gold, Manha Jaafri (38), Flourish Nmor (67.5) and Tricia Ehichoya (115).
The top six in each weight class from both Michienzi and Charrette conferences advance to WOSSAA, February 20 at Saunders secondary school. They are joined by the qualifiers from Huron-Perth.
East Elgin Eagles Sydney Woodford was acclaimed the female 115-kg winner, with Kyle Louis taking the male 95 gold medal.
Eagles' Peyton Thiessen (third, female 57.5.) and James Kunkel (sixth, male 77) advance.
Other Stampeders females qualifying are Jaedyn Hohmann (second, 57.5), Avree Keeling (third 57.5), Britania Bryan (third, 64) Kira Vas-Griffith (fourth, 67.5) and Shaughnessy Learn (fifth, 57.5).
Parkside boys moving on to WOSSAA are Nash Okkerse (third, 54), Jack Rice (third, 47.5), Jack Dennis (fourth, 47.5), Liam Wright (fifth, 51) Simon Carriere (fifth, 64)and Gavin Dale (fifth, 57.5).
Additional Titans advancing are Jon Janzen (second, male 38), Kendelle Scott (third, female 83) and Caillen Sutton (fourth, female 51).
Rams joining their golden girls are a trio of female silver medalists Tori Hill (72), Nikola Vaessen (89) and Allyson Marr (57.5). Ava Adzija was third in 61.
On the male side, Rams advancing are Eli Villalobos (second, 44), Tyler Perrot (second, 103), Lucas Triana (third, 64), Nash Bannerman (fifth, 51) Max Boldt (sixth, 64) and Gabriel Sherman (sixth, 67.5)
St. Joe's placed third in female team standings and third overall at the Michienzi meet.
Lucas took the overall and female titles, while Montcalm are the boys team champs.
Saunders swept all team titles at the Charrette division.
Parkside placed third overall and second in the girls division. Central Elgin was third for the boys and fifth overall.
Nate Sweet, of Saunders and Abigail Fuentes from Laurier, are the male and female wrestlers of the Charrette meet.
Parker Zimmerman from Oakridge and Alexandra Giroux from Lucas, are the male and female wrestlers of the meet for the Michienzi conference.

LONDON, Ont. - Isabelle Patterson is the new WOSSAA record holder in the open girls 100-metre back stroke.
The St. Thomas native who attends Banting secondary school in London, shaved nearly second off the old meet mark at WOSSAA swimming Wednesday at the Canada Games Aquatic Centre.
Winning by nearly two seconds in a minute and 6.36 seconds (1:06.36), Patterson lowered the record from 1:07.29.
Patterson, 14, also finished second in the 200 free (2:23.24) and swam the first leg, the backstrokes, on Banting's open girls 200m medley winning relay (2:00.72).
Event winners and swimmers hitting qualifying times head to OFSAA, March 3-4 in Windsor.
East Elgin Eagles Louisa Begeman won open girls 50 free in 27.91 seconds and finished fourth in open girls 100 fly (1:10.72). Begeman also was on the Eagles' open girls 200 free relay and open girls 200 medley relay (2:17.40) teams, both placing second.
St. Joseph's Rams Martino Vu qualified in four events in 14U boys, placing second in the 50m breaststroke (38.26 sec.), third in the 100 free (1:08.57), fourth in the 50 free (29.69 sec.) and on the Rams gold medal winning 200m medley relay (2:06.39).
With Vu on the 14U 200m medley relay, Owen Lupson, Evan Johnston and Evan Herr.
Parkside Stampeders Brynley Martin qualified in the 14U girls 100 I.M and 100 free, finishing eighth (1:32.42) and ninth (1:16.46), respectively.
Stampeders Kloe Sleightholm, also qualified in the 14y 100 free.
Martin, Sleightholm, Megan Landon and Isabel Rodgers, placed third, qualifying for OFSAA in the 14U girls 200m free relay (2:21.80).
St. Joseph's Rams Brogans Hines placed second in both the para 50 and 100 free races.

TORONTO, Ont. - St. Thomas Legion had two athletes stand top the podium at Athletics Ontario (AO) Senior and U18 championships February 7-8, at York University.
Henry Scott, age 17, won the senior men's 400 metres sprint in a personal best (PB) time of 50.19 seconds and took silver in the 200-metre dash with another PB (22.52 sec.) and finished 17th in the 60m dash (7.13 sec.).
Breanna Sloetjes took the senior women's high jump title clearing 1.66 metres, an indoor PB and was sixth in senior women's long jump (5.03m).
The pair of gold medalists led a team of 10 athletes with St. Thomas Legion.
Will Downing captured silver in the 60-metre hurdles with a PB time of 8.22 seconds, also a STL club record. Downing finished 22nd in the 200m dash (24.45 sec.).
Ivan Bosjak was second in senior men's shot put (11.38m).
Nash Okkerse, 15, finished sixth in the U18 men's 800m (2:02.5 and 10th in 1500m (4:17.59), both times PBs and clib records.
Xavier Sauer was fourth in U18 men's jihj jump (1.74m) and 14th in long jump (5.43m).
Amy Williamson, 15, placed seventh in U18 women's triple jump (PB 10.59m), 15th in long jump (4.54m), 34th in the 60m dash (8.42 sec.) and 42nd in the 200m (28.85 sec.).
Kayla Zelibka was 13th in U18 women's 400m (PB 1:02.11) and 24th in the 60 metre dash (8.26 sec.).
Danica Cober was 13th in the senior women's 60m hurdles (9.59 sec), 18th in the 200m (27.76 sec.) and 24th in the 60 metre dash (8.22 sec.).
Cadence Baitz was 21st in U18 women's long jump (4.30m)and 63rd in the 60m dash (9.08 sec.)
Ethan Atkinson from St. Thomas, with London-Western club, took silver in senior men's pole vault (4.45m), behind winner Christian Futo (4.55m).

WINDSOR, Ont. - AJ Stanat (photo) continues to prepare for his final university track and field championships.
The 22-year old from St. Thomas, threw 18.32 metres to win men's shot put, just short of his personal best of 18.44m, Saturday at the Lancer Team Challenge indoor meet at Windsor University.
Stanat also placed second in men's weight throw, reaching 17.59 metres.
The Kinesiology student is the reigning U-Sports (Canadian) and Ontario University Athletics (OUA) shot put champion and currently ranks first this season with his 18.44m throw.
Stanat ranks fourth in weight throw at 18.01.m
This year U-Sports is at the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg, March 5-7.
Hallee Knelsen from Malahide, ran the final leg of the Western Mustangs' silver medal winning women's 4x800-metre relay team that qualified for U-Sports. Their time of eight minutes and 54.24 seconds (8:54.24), that also eclipsed the meet record, places the Mustangs second in the U-Sports rankings.
Windsor won the relay for the meet record and is first in the nation with a time of 8:52.06.
Mustangs' Anij Sparaberg from St. Thomas, was fourth in women's shot put (12.42m).
Mustangs' Vincent Moore from St. Thomas finished seventh in the men's 600 metres (1:21.82).
Ryan Johnson fo Thorndale, a Mustangs' freshman, lowered his PB time to 1:23.63, finishing 13th in the men's 600 metres.
Mason Basson from Sparta, took a silver medal with the Guelph Gryphons men's 4x800-metre relay team (7:41.30), and finished 11th in the men's 600m (1:23.36).
Jadyn Luna from Thorndale, with Windsor, had to withdraw from the women's pentathlon during long jump due to injury and missed the 800m run. Luna had won shot put (11.74m), placed third in the 60-metre hurdles with a PB time of 9.16 seconds, and was ninth in high jump. .

LONDON, Ont. - Louisa Begeman swam to a pair of gold medals at the Thames Valley Regional Athletics (TVRA) swimming.
Begeman won both the open girls 50 (28.01 seconds) and 100-metre freestyle events (1:03.47) and finished second in the 100 fly (1:09.18).
Swimmers making qualifyinttimes move on to the Western Ontario Secondary School Athletic Association (WOSSAA) championships.
The East Elgin Eagles Grade 10 student led an Eagles team of 12 swimmers at the meet January 13-14.
Swimmers making qualifying times move on to the Western Ontario Secondary School Athletic Association (WOSSAA) championships.
Cameron Morrison, who attended OFSAA last year, had three top five results leading the Parkside Stampeders.
Morrison in 15 and over boys, finished third, 100 I.M. (1:16.08), fourth, 100 free (1:06.22) and fifth, 50 free (28.29 sec.).
St. Joseph's Rams Martino Vu posted three top five results in 14 and under boys, placing second, 50 breaststroke (38.52 sec.), fourth, 50 free (30.37 sec.), fifth, 100 free (1:13.37).
Brogans Hines won both the para men's 100 free (1:44.82) and 50 free (41.07 sec.) and finished fourth, in the para mens' 50 breast (59.26 sec.).
Dorchester Beavers' Katie Dimitroff and Claira Fletcher move on to WOSSAA in three open girls events.
Joseph Robinson led the Central Elgin Titans placing third in the para mixed 50-metre back and sixth in the 50 free.
Isabelle Patterson, a St. Thomas native who attends Banting secondary school, took open girls 100-metre back gold, finished second in the 200 free (2:23.17) and was part of two Banting Broncos golden relay teams, the open girls 200 free medley and open girls 200 free relay.
WOSSAA is Wednesday, February 11, at the Aquatic Centre.
From WOSSAA, qualifiers move on to OFSAA, March 3-4, in Windsor.

CALGARY, Alta. - James Dunn is heading to his third Paralympics.
The 25-year old from Wallacetown was named to Canada's para men's hockey 17-player roster Tuesday, for the 2026 Paralymic Winter Games in Milano Cortina, Italy, March 6-15.
"It never gets old being able to put that Maple Leaf on. It is such a honour and I'm very proud to be able to do it again for my third Paralympics," Dunn said. "It is never expected. Still have to put the work in and earn that spot as there are others that want the opportunity as well."
At the 2022 Paralymic Games, Dunn had 13 goals and five assists in nine games.
Canada is still looking for their first gold medal since 2006. The Americans have won five of the eight Paralymics, including the past four gold medals.

Scott took gold in the 300-meter dash, winning in a personal best time of 35.18 seconds, in the university men division Saturday, January 17 at the Don Wright Team challenge and All Comers indoor track and field meet at Western University.
Running with the St. Thomas Legion Club, Scott is a Grade 12 student at East Elgin Secondary and now is ranked number one in the 300 in the National U20 men's rankings.
Scott also set two PBs, in the heats (7.10 sec.) and final (9.08 sec.) finishing fifth in the 60-meter dash.
Eleven athletes from STL competed.
Breanna Sloetjes set a indoor PB of 1.63m in women's high jump, moving up to number three in the National U20 rankings.
Xavier Sauer won the U16 boys high jump (1.75m) and finished seventh in the U20 men's 60m dash (7.54 sec.).
Ivan Bosnjek won senior men's shot put (11.52m), placed second in long jump (5.37m) and ninth in the 60m dash.
Will Downing lowered his PB in the U18 men's 60m hurdles to 8.48 seconds.
Danica Cober placed second in both the U20 women's 60m dash (8.23 sec.) and 60m hurdles (9.56 sec.).
Amy Williamson in U18 women's, was second in long jump (4.81m), third in triple jump (10.03m) and seventh in the 60m.
Brianna Scott took gold and Alayna Sloetjes, silver, in the U16 girls 300m dash.
CJ Augustus was fourth in Open 60m dhas (7.40 sec.)
Kaleb Charette set a PB placing fifth in U16 boys shot put (11.10m).
Andrew Urquhart of Thorndale, with London-Western Club, won U20 men's shot put (13.23m).

WINDSOR, Ont. - AJ Stanat (photo) finally attained a long time goal.
Stanat, from St. Thomas, with the host Windsor Lancers, crushed the 18 metre mark, hitting 18.44-metres, to win gold for the men's shot put, Friday at the Lancer Can Am Open indoor meet at Windsor University.
For nearly a year, the current Canadian U-Sports and Athletics Canada champion, has been attempting to crack the 18-metre mark.
His distance also qualifies Stanat for the U-Sports Canadian championships, at the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg, March 5-7.
Stanat also won men's weight throw with a best distance of 17 metres.
Mason Basson from Sparta, with the Guelph Gryphons, finished fifth in the men's 800-metres (1:23.023).
Hallee Knelsen from Malahide, ran the final leg of the Western Mustangs' silver medal winning women's 4x800-metre relay team that qualified for U-Sports. Their time of 8:54.24, that also eclipsed the meet record, places the Mustangs second in the U-Sports rankings.
Windsor won the relay for the meet record and is first in the nation with a time of 8:52.06.
Jadyn Luna from Thorndale, with Windsor, had to withdraw from the women's pentathlon during long jump due to injury and missed the 800m run. Luna had won shot put (11.74m), placed third in the 60-metre hurdles with a PB time of 9.16 seconds, and was ninth in high jump. .
Tegan Ceccanese of Dorchester, with the Laurier Hawks, finished 26th in the women's mile (5:38.13).

Bromont, Que. - Brody Mann (photo) is a National cycling champion.
The 18-year old from St. Thomas won the Elite Men's points race at the Canadian track cycling championships today at the Bromont Cycling Centre.
It's Mann's second medal at the event, taking a bronze in the madison race on day one Wednesday.
Mann also finished sixth in the scratch race.
"In all honesty, this was my first elite national championships, so I didn't have much strategy going in, other than to just have some fun and learn some new things," Mann said. "I managed to lap the field three times throughout the race. Each time giving me 20 points towards my winning total. All in all, an amazing experience. Something I will never forget.
Mann has won gold at the National level as a U17 competitor before, taking the scratch race in 2023.
"Although I'm able to say that I have been a National champion before, this one feels a little different," said Mann. "Now that I am an U23, winning this one feels so much different. Being one of the youngest riders out there, and to be able to say that I've beaten Canadian Olympians is pretty unreal."
The madison, with teams of two riders, is a race in which the team completing the most laps over a determined time wins.
The scratch race is a mass-start event where riders race a set distance and the first person to cross the finish line wins.
Eve Buczkowski from Talbotville, an U19 cyclist competing in the U23 women division, brought home a bronze medal in the Madison and placed fifth in the scratch race.

TORONTO, Ont. - It was a big night for Railway City soccer club at the League1 Ontario annual awards.
Emma Fluit (left photo) won female Defender of the Year and was named MVP for the South-West division.
Sophia Lezizidis is the female South-West Forward of the Year and captured the Golden Boot for most goals scored, with 12.
With Fluit and Lezizidis leading the way, Railway City finished second in the League2 Ontario SouthWest division, with a 11-1-2 record.
Alan Monyard won male Defender of the Year for the South-West Division.

ST. THOMAS - A local boxer is heading to the Canadian championships.
Ethan Andersen of St. Thomas, with Championship City Boxing Club in St. Thomas, won the U23 men's 50-55 kilogram weight class, at the Golden Gloves provincial championships October in Windsor.
Next for Andersen are the U17/U19/U23 National championships, March 18-22, 2026, in Calgary.
Keegan Banfic of St. Thomas, in the U20 men's 70-kg class and Noah Sopoco of St. Thomas, U17 men's 57-kg, picked up bronze medals in their respective divisions.

ST. THOMAS - Host St. Thomas Panthers won three gold and a silver medal at their Panthers on the Prowl tournament Dec 5-7.
The annual three day tournament featured 38 teams in seven divisions.
Anna Virginia Lee fired in the GWG in overtime, lifting the Panthers to a 3-2 win, in the U11C final over Southpoint.
Paisleigh Somerville also scored, while Miranda Moyse picked up an assist.
The Panthers finished with 4 wins and a tie.
In the U15C final, Mackenzie Nagy had the game's lone goal, in a 1-0 shutout of Kincardine. Goalie Sydney Orchard was spotless for the shutout.
The win avenged the Panthers lone loss and only goal surrendered over the tournament, to Kincardine, in their opening game.
Goalie Madison Knelsen posted her third shutout in three games, in the U18C final, blanking Ilderton, 4-0.
Deanna Lale with two goals, Shardae Riley and Lexi Thomson scored, while Cassidy Broderick drew three assists.
The U18C Panthers went 5-0-0, allowing just a single goal.
In the U13HL final, the Panthers battling a team flu, were edged 2-1 by Oakville. Allie Harvey netted the 'Cats' goal.
In the U13HL semifinals, the Panthers edged Flambrough, 4-3, with Harvey, Brinley Haneberry, Brooke Boshart and Ellory Carr bulging twine.
The U11HL Panthers dropped a 2-1 game to Sarnia, in the quarterfinals.
The U15HL Panthers went 0-4-0.

ST. THOMAS - Laura and Scott McDonald now have back to back mixed doubles curling titles.
The McDonalds scored one in the eighth end to edge Katie Ford and Oliver Camppbell, 8-7, in the final of the St. Thomas Classic, Sunday at the St. Thomas Curling Club.
The win avenged the only loss at the tournnament
Laura made some really clutch shots throughout the weekend," said Scott. "Our communication was key to our success.
Team McDonald went 4-1 in pool play, before dominant wins the quarters and semifinals, landed them in their third consecutive final.
"It was extra special to win on home ice, in front of family, frieds and all of our supporters," said Scott.
Overall the McDonalds are 28-4.
Over the first weekend of November, the McDonalds won at Palmerston.
The season started with an quarterfinal appearance at the Dixie Cup, in Mississauga, in late September. The following weekend at the Kemptville Fall Classic, the McDonalds made the final.

BELLEVILLE, Ont. - The St. Joseph's Rams are one of the top girls basketball teams in the province.
St. Joe's finished fourth at OFSAA AA girls basketball, as the Kings Christian Caveliers from Oakville, held off the Rams, 52-50, in the bronze medal game, Saturday at St. Theresa secondary school.
The game came down to the final eight seconds of regulation time, with the Rams holding possession, but Kings Christian made game saving defensive play.
Annalise Verbruggan led the Rams with 16 points, while Ella Ambrose had 10 and Campbell and Keilah Centen, nine points each.
In the semifinals, top seeded Thousand Islands Pirates defeated St. Joe's, 62-28.
E.L. Crossley from Fonthill, in the Niagara region, beat Thousand Islands, 35-34, for the gold medal.

BELLEVILLE, Ont. - The St. Joseph's Rams will be bringing home an OFSAA girls basketball medal.
What colour the medal will be determined on Saturday with the four teams remaining at the high school provincial AA tournament at St. Theresa secondary school.
The semifinals have the fourth seeded Rams facing top ranked Thousand Islands Pirates from Brockville, while number two Oakville Kings Christian takes on sixth seeded E.L. Crossley from Fonthill.
St. Joe's rallied in the second quarter down 11 points, to come back and defeat Orillia Patrick Fogarty, 57-50, in the quarterfinals.
The Rams spread the scoring out, with Annalise Verbruggan having 14 points, Ella Ambrose, 13, Jaylin Campbell, 11, and Melissa Gillies, 10.
Fogarty led 7-0 in the opening minutes, 11-3, 17-10 after one quarter and 26-15, before the Rams ignited their comeback.
It was a one point game, 26-25, at recess.

WEST LORNE, Ont. - The atmosphere were set for a celebration. The West Elgin Wildcats did not disappoint.
In front of a full house decorated purple and white, the Wildcats captured the WOSSAA 1-A junior boys volleyball title, defeating the Mitchell Blue Devils, Thursday at West Elgin secondary school.
West Elgin swept the best of five game match, 25-14, 25-15, 25-14.
A week earlier West Elgin took down London Christian in the TVRA Central division 1-A final.

STRATFORD, Ont. - They have become the six strong.
Now those half dozen St. Joseph's Rams are heading to OFSAA, after capturing the WOSSAA AA senior girls basketball title Wednesday at St. Mike's secondary school.
Annalise Verbruggan poured in 25 points, to lead the Rams over their cross town rivals, Parkside Stampeders, 50-31, in the gold medal final.
The Rams built a nine point lead by half-time, at 26-17, and maintained the advantage throughout the second half.
Ella Ambrose had nine points for the Rams, while Melissa Gillies only two points, but shined as a defensive wizard.
Mazy McClure led Parkside with eight points.
OFSAA is November 20-22 in Belleville.

LONDON, Ont. - Olivia Thompson still could not believe it.
Even after the medals were handed out and celebrating with the championship banner, Thompson was in disbelief she was an OFSAA field hockey champion.
Thompson scored the lone goal in the gold medal game, a 1-0 Medway Cowboys win over the Saltfleet Storm, today at City Wide Sports park.
The Thorndale resident scored twice in the semifinals, a 4-0 shutout of Bishop Reding. Hildi Thauer and Emma Goris, another Thorndalian, also potted goals.
Goalie Helaena MacDonald shutout the opposition in both games.
Medway went undefeated over the three day high school provincial championship, with five wins and a tie.
It is the first gold ever for Medway in field hockey and first medal since a silver in 1998. Medway placed fourth in Thompson's Grade 9 year, but didn't advance from pool play a year ago.
That hunger from last year's disapointment remained going into this season. Medway cruised through the Thames Valley Region season, undefeated.
Goderich, the only team to beat Medway, in the WOSSAA final, lost in the OFSAA quarterfinals.

ST. THOMAS - The East Elgin Eagles are back as TVRA junior football tier two football champions.
A last second touchdown in the first half sparked the Eagles to a 17-6 win over the Ingersoll Blue Bombers in the final, Friday at 1Password Park.
Chris Centeno scored a two yard touchdown run, a two-point convert and kicked a field goal. Zander Freisen had about a 40-yard TD run.
Centeno gave the Eagles a 3-0 lead in the second quarter, in a defensive first half.
Friesen broke loose for a 40-yard run on the final play of the first half, for a 9-0 lead.
Centeno plunged in for a TD mid fourth quarter and caught pass for an additional two points, putting the Eagles up, 17-0.
Ingersoll scored in the final minutes of the fourth quarter.

ST. THOMAS - The one thing about the St. Joseph's Rams bench is that there isn't one.
Due to injuries, the Rams only have one spare, but that didn't prevent the six available players from upending the Parkside Stampeders, 56-42, in the TVRA South-East AA senior girls basketball final Thursday at Parkside CI.
Leading 21-17 at half-time, the Rams went on a 13-4 run, for a 34-21 lead.
Annalise Verbruggan scored a game high 17 points and shot five for six from the charity stripe. Ella Ambrose dropped in 16 points, Keilah Centen, 10 and Melissa Gillies, six.
Blaire Dawdy led Parkside with 13 points, while Kennedy Lawrence chipped in with seven.
Both teams move on to WOSSAA, November 12, at St. Mike's high school in Stratford.

WOODSTOCK, Ont. - The Central Elgin Titans came out on fire.
However, the Huron Park Huskies showed how they finished first with a 8-0 record during the regular season.
Down 6-0 early, the Huskies rallied in game one for a 25-20 win, before taking the next two games, for a sweep in the South-East AA senior boys volleyball final Wednesday at Huron Park secondary..
Both teams move on to WOSSAA, back at Huron Park, Wednesday, November 13.
In the semifinals, the Titans dusted St. Joe's, while the Huskies took care of St. Mary's Warriors, both in the three games.
Woodstock CI defeated St. Mary's, three games to one, in the junior final.

BRAMPTON, Ont. - Nash Okkerse finishes an undefeated season as an OFSAA champion.
Okkerse cruised to victory, taking the novice boys race by 11 seconds today at OFSAA cross country at Heart Lake Conservation Area.
The Grade nine Parkside Stampeder won each of his seven races this season.
Makayla Varallo of Thorndale, finished 11th in the novice girls race, leading her school, Medway High, to sixth place in the team standings.
Dorchester Beavers Kirk Hallman placed 17th in senior boys race.
St. Joseph's Rams Armani Moniz was 113th in junior boys.
The Rams' senior girls team placed 27th, led by Abi Faris finishing 90th in the race.
For WOSSAA, St. Marys DCVI, a single-A school, took the senior boys team title, while their novice boys were fourth.
Autumn Vandermeer, London Gabriel-Dumont, placed fifth in junior girls.

LONDON, Ont. - Nash Okkerse's sixth race win is taking him to OFSAA.
Okkerse broke away from a pack of eight runners mid way through the race, to win the novice boys title by 23 seconds, at WOSSAA cross country today at Springbank Park.
This season, the Parkside Stampeder won all four invitational meets and TVRA Tri-County a week ago in Strathroy.
OFSAA is at Heart Lake Conservation Area in Brampton, Saturday, November 1.
From WOSSAA, the top two teams and the top five individuals not on the top two teams, advance to OFSAA.
Dorchester Beavers Kirk Hallman took the senior boys race, even after being directed in the wrong direction with about 400 metres remaining.
Makayla Varallo of Thorndale, finished second in the novice girls race, leading Medway High to the team title.
St. Joseph's Rams Armani Moniz, finished 10th, nabbing the fifth and final qualifying spot, in the junior boys race.
The Rams' senior girls team advance to OFSAA, placing second behind London Central.
The group of Flourish Nmor, Abi Faris, Alex Fangeat, Sadie Dowswell and Claire Caslick, is heading to OFSAA for their fourth time.

BRAMPTON, Ont. - Andrea Lai is the 2025 OFSAA open girls golf champion.
The Grade nine golfer from St. Joe's won the gold medal in a playoff today at Lionhead golf club.
Lai and Adrianna Salalila of Lakefield College school, finished two rounds of 18 holes, tied in top spot at three-over 147 in the open division.
On the playoff hole, Lai made par, while Salalila had a bogey.
Rams Melissa Gillies placed 36th in the high school division.
From WOSSAA, Exeter South Huron's Lulu Stuckless placed tied 19th, while London Central's Taryn Vasarhelyi was tied 55th.
At OFSAA boys golf in Lindsay, Andrew Sudicky from Dutton, with Saunders secondary school, placed fourth in the team standings.

ST. THOMAS - When a team has three winners including both finalists in two events they become tough to beat.
The Parkside Stampeders are the Thames Valley Region Athletics (TVRA) Tri-County tennis team champions, taking the regional banner Wednesday at Pinafore Park.
Parkside was led by three event winners, Charlie Gunn, in boys' singles, Afimaa Dankwa, in girls singles and Cohen Kelly and Zachary McDermid, in boys doubles.
In two events, Parkside winners had to defeat teammates.
Kelly and McDermid outlasted Matthew East and Ronan Davidson. Dankwa had to disappoint her younger sister Madina.
Holding the monopoly in two event finals, pulled Parkside away from second place St. Joe's, in a two horse race for team gold. East Elgin finished a distant third.
Placing third for Parkside in mixed doubles, were Katelyn Broadhead and Liam Dlouhy and in girls doubles, Cassandra Baker and Alexis Scott.
Winning gold for the Rams, in mixed doubles, were Libby McCurdy and Liam Metzer and in girls doubles, Payton Biser and Allie Rickwood.
Rachael Li, in girls singles and Tyson Hollingsworth in boys singles, took bronze for St. Joe's.
East Elgin Eagles Marius Agoston was second in boys singles, while Dennis Fehr and Aaron Froese, placed third in boys doubles.
Tillonsburg Glendale's Meesha Finck and Rylan Homick was second in mixed doubles.
Woodstock St. Mary's Oriana Belmonte and Gabriella Fortuna, second in girls doubles.

LONDON, Ont. - Andrea Lai and Melissa Gillies are both taking their golf clubs to OFSAA.
Lai, only in Grade nine, won the individual title with a 77 over 18 holes in A flight Tuesday at Thames Valley golf course.
Gillies placed third overall and second in the high school division with a 95.
Lulu Stuckless from Exeter South Huron (86) and Taryn Vasarhelyi of London Central (98), placed second and fourth overall.
Only Lai will be in the open division at OFSAA, the high school provincial tournament, October 14-15, at Lionhead golf club in Brampton.
The Open classification refers to players who have competed in a provincial, state or national championship within the last 12 months.
Paige Campbell, from Stratford St. Mike's and Ellyn Chu, of London Mother Theresa, also qualified for OFSAA.
Central Elgin Titans Abbie Neil and Janay Gillard, finished 11th and 16th, respectively in A flight.
Strathroy's Norah Dixon won B flight (nine holes) carding a 46.
Dylan Eadie of London Oakridge was second in B flight with a 50, while Emma Joudrey of London Lucus won third place in a playoff after a round of 51.
Six players scored a 51, including St. Joseph's Rams Charlie Giesbrecht.

HIGHGATE, Ont. - The Highgate Rock are league champions for the first time in 23 years.
Meanwhile, the St. Thomas Storm watched their opponent celebrate a South Middlesex Men's Fastball League championship for a third straight year.
Highgate exploded for seven runs in the third inning, on their way to a 9-2 win, in five innings, tonight on home field.
Rock pitcher Connor Sloan tossed a complete game eight hitter, striking out six batters.
The Rock last held the playoff title in 2002, oddly enough winning that year's final against the Union Storm, now St. Thomas.
The Storm have now lost three consecutive finals, to Glencoe in 2023 and Chippewa last year, and haven't held the title since 2019.

LONDON, Ont. - In her first month of high school, Andrea Lai is already a Thames Valley Regional Athletics (TVRA) champion.
The St. Joe's Ram had a round of 76 over 18 holes, to win the TVRA girls golf A flight title by 19 strokes, Wednesday at the Thames Valley golf course.
Lai led the Rams to the team title, with Melissa Gillies and Charlie Giesbrecht.
Gillies placed second in A flight carding a 95.
Central Elgin Titans Abbie Neil placed fourth with a 99, leading the team to fourth overall.
Emilia Espana of London Aquinas, finished third overall and won the Central division A flight individual title with a 97.
London Lucas took the Central team title, led by B flight winner Keaton Schofield, who fired a 46 over nine holes.
Qualifiers move on to WOSSAA, back at Thames Valley, Tuesday, September 30.

FINGAL, Ont. - The championship final is going the distance.
The Highgate Rock scored three times in the top of the seventh, for a 9-6 win, denying the Storm from taking the title at home in game four tonight.
Game five is Monday, September 29 at Highgate.
The Storm hope to capture the league banner following back to back seasons as the runner-up, losing in four games to Chippewa a year ago and to Glencoe in five games in 2023.
Highgate aims for their first title since 2003.

UNION, Ont. - Zack Clark carded a four-over-76, to capture the Tri-County boys golf individual title.
Clark led his St. Joe's Rams to second place in the team standings, Monday at the St. Thomas Golf and Country Club.
Parkside Stampeders Cohen Kelly and Woodstock Collegiate's Damian Gravers, tied for second, both shooting a five-over-77.
Rams Quinn Wilson is fifth (seven-over-79), while Parkside's Jake Bosma, tied for seventh and Damon Fish, tied for ninth.
The Stampeders are the 2025 Tri-County boys golf A flight team champions, eight strokes lower than St. Joe's.
Glencoe placed third, followed by Woodstock Huron Park, Ingersoll and Dorchester, all teams qualifying for WOSSAA, back in Union, September 29.
The West Elgin Wildcats took the B flight title, with the East Elgin Eagles placing second.
Rain delayed the tournament for 30 minutes, with most players having one hole remaining.

ST THOMAS - A capacity crowd watched the St. Thomas Stars win their home opener.
Just over 1,700 fans packed the Thornton Centre, watching the Stars edge Port Colborne Lakers, 3-2.
Tyran Lawson, Luke Wachowiak and Reid Crossman with the game winner, scored for the Stars.
After a scoreless first period, the Stars took a 2-0 lead and led 3-1 mid way through the third period.
St. Thomas is 2-1, after losing their season opening game at Chatham, 5-3 and thumping Sarnia, 10-0, Thursday on the road.

The pair both from St. Thomas, finished one stroke (-3, 69) behind winners Elaine Surjoprajogo and Susan Chen, from Mississauga (-4, 68), at the one day tournament, hosted by the St. Thomas Golf and Country Club.
Jade Tep-Cchun of St. Thomas, with partner Narisse Daye of Sarnia, tied for third place (-2, 70).
In the senior women's division, Karen Deluce and Barbara Cousins, from St. Thomas, tied for 13th (+11, 83).
Lisa Anderson and Lynn Sebastien, from the Highland Country Club in London, won the senior crown (+1, 73).

ST. THOMAS - The St. Thomas Panthers took three gold medals at their annual Big Cat Showdown.
The U11A, U15B and U18B Panthers teams, all won their finals, with 2-0 scores, Sunday at the Thornton Centre.
The U18A Panthers settled for silver, falling to Chatham-Kent, 2-0, in their final.
The U13A and U11B Panthers lost in the semifinals.
The three day tournament featured nine divisions, with teams from far away as Windsor, Collingwood, Barrie and Sault Ste. Marie.
Marg MacFarlane and Rylee Howlett scored in the final for the U11 Panthers.

ST. THOMAS - The St. Thomas Cardinals didn't exactly handily win the Ontario Baseball Association B 15U championship.
However, with all five wins by a mercy (leading by 10-plus runs at fifth inning), the Cardinals barely broke a sweat pounding their opponents with a combined score of 70-15.
Matthew East pitched a complete five inning game, a 13-3 defeat of Simcoe in the final Sunday at Emslie Field.

DORCHESTER, Ont. - When opponents are held to three runs or less every game, winning is much easier.
The St. Thomas Cardinals only allowed 11 runs over five games, on their way to the Ontario Baseball Association B 10U rep championship, Sunday.
St. Thomas held off DKMB (Delaware Komoka Mt Brydges), 6-3, in the final, completing a 5-0 run over the three day tournament.
Cardinals pitcher Ollie Southcott tossed five innings, allowing two runs on six hits and walking just one batter, to earn the game MVP.
Southcott also went three-for-three at the plate, with one RBI.
Two years ago, the Cardinals captured the OBA 8U title.

ST. THOMAS - For an eighth consecutive season, this group of St. Thomas Cardinals are London and District Baseball Association (LDBA) champions.
This year, the Cardinals went 5-0 on their way to the LDBA 15U title, mercying Mitchell, 12-2, in the final Sunday at Emslie Field.
Leading 2-1, the Cardinals doubled their score in the third inning, before taking command of the game with three more runs in the fourth, for a 7-1 lead.
Linkin Kellington had a pair of singles, scored twice and drove in a run. Quinn Wilson batted two-for-three, with one RBI and Ben McCoubrey had two singles.
Matthew East and Creed Green both hit two run doubles, while Evan Campbell picked up two RBIs.
Kellington pitched the opening inning, before Drew Bate worked four innings, striking out five batters and allowing just five hits and three walks to first base.
St. Thomas capitalized on four Mitchell errors.
The Cardinals now prepare for their Ontario Baseball Association championship, August 29-September 1, in St. Thomas.

Fangeat, of St. Thomas, took the bronze medal in women's points race, Saturday at the 2025 Junior track cycling world championships.
A day earlier, Eve Buczkowski and Fangeat, placed 13th and 14th, respectively, in the women's individual pursuit.

ST. JOHN'S, NFLD. - Hallee Knelsen has her first medal of the Canada Summer Games.
The 22-year old from Malahide took the bronze medal in the women's 1500 metres, finishing in personal best time of 4:21.53, Friday at the Canada Summer Games.

At the Fortis Canada Games Complex, it is the coolest and windiest day of athletics.
AJ Stanat of St. Thomas captured his second medal of the game, bronze in men's discus throw (47.56m).
Knelsen just missed the podium in the women's 800 metres, finishing fourth (2:09.29)
The Games are an U23 multi sports event.

APELDOORN, Nl. - Eve Buczkowski and Alex Fangeat are among the top young cyclists in the world.
Buczkowski, from Talbotville and Fangeat, of St. Thomas, placed fifth with the Canadian women, in team pursuit, Thursday at the 2025 Junior track cycling world championships.
The four member team advanced from qualifying Wednesday and beat Poland to place fifth.
Brody Mann of St. Thomas, with the Canadian men, placed 10th in team pursuit qualifying.
Fangeat was 23rd in the women's scratch race.
The championships continue through Sunday.

ST. JOHN'S, NFLD. - AJ Stanat keeps adding to his impressive resume in throwing events.
The St. Thomas native won men's shot put gold this afternoon at the Canada Summer Games at the Fortis Canada Games Complex.
Stanat overcame rainy conditions for a event best 17.04 metre throw.
His second event, discus, goes Saturday.
Hallee Knelsen of Malahide, won her women's 1500-metre heat, to advance to the Friday's final.
The 22-year old has 800 metre heats Wednesday.
Knelsen was selected as Team Ontario's distance captain.
Wednesday, August 20th update: Knelsen advances to the final for the women's 800 meters. The final takes the track on Saturday.

DORCHESTER, Ont. - They swam like their animal namesake.
The Otterville Otters captured the team title at the annual Tri-County swimming championships this year held Saturday at the Dorchester Community Pool.
Led by 11 medalists, including three individual gold medalists, Otterville won by 70 points over second place Strathroy.
The Dorchester Dolphins placed third and lifted the trophy for displaying Most Spirit throughout the competition.
Thamesford, Woodstock and Delhi, rounded out the team standings.
Katie Dimitroff in open girls and Avery Weishar in U6 girls won combined individual gold for Dorchester. Braydon Anderson took silver in U10 boys and Brookie Chen, bronze in U8 girls.
Swimmers earned points from each of the four types of races, butterfly, back crawl, breaststroke and freestyle.
For Otterville, Declan Knill (U8 boys), Laney Joyce (U12 girls) and Medley Ingram (U16 girls) took home gold medals.

OTTAWA, Ont. - AJ Stanat is a Canadian outdoor champion in men's shot put.
The 22-year old from St. Thomas captured the gold medal, with an event best toss of 17.35 metres, Sunday at the Canadian track and field championships held at the Terry Fox Athletic Complex.
Stanat won by 1.45 metres, but was disappointed not cracking the 18 metre mark, a goal for this season.
Hallee Knelsen of Malehide, with three friends from the Western Mustangs track team, running as the Purple Ponies, won the women's 4x400-metre senior mixed team relay gold (3:47.39).
On Saturday, Jadyn Luna of Thorndale, finished fifth in women's heptathlon racking up 4,327 points. On day two Luna was third in javelin (33.38m), fourth in the 800 metre run (2:28.12) and eighth in long jump (4.87m).
Breanna Sloetjes with St. Thomas Legion Club, was fourth in U20 women's high jump (1.63m).

OTTAWA, Ont. - Mike Roth brings home a bronze, while Hallee Knelsen keep getting faster.
Mike Roth of St. Thomas finished third in the men's 400 metre dash, today at the Canadian track and field championships.
Olympian Christopher Morales Williams won gold in 45.16 second, followed by Nathan George (46.25 sec.).
Hallee Knelsen lowered her personal best time in the women's 800 metre run to 2:05.77, but missed advancing to the final, placing 10th. The top eight move on.
Jadyn Luna of Thorndale, sits ninth after day one of the women's heptathlon, placing fourth in the 200-metre dash (26.51 sec.), fifth in shot put (11.12m), eighth in the 100-metre hurdles (15.88 sec.) and ninth in high jump (1.35m).
Luna has javelin, long jump and the 800 metre run tomorrow Saturday.

OTTAWA, Ont. - Several local athletes are in the nation's capital for the Canadian track and field championships.
Mike Roth of St. Thomas has advanced to the men's 400-metre dash final tonight.
AJ Stanat of St. Thomas, placed sixth in men's discus with a best throw of 44.63 metres. Stanat has shot put on Sunday, the final day of the six day event.
Hunter Campbell was 10th, in U20 men's hammer throw producing a measurement of 47.60 metres and 16th in discus (42.78m).
Hallee Knelsen will be in the women's 800 metre semifinals today.
Jadyn Luna of Thorndale, is competing in the women's heptathlon, today and tomorrow.
Ethan Atkinson of St. Thomas has U20 men's pole vault today and Dylen Belanger from St. Thomas, in the men's 400-metre hurdles.
Saturday has Breanna Sloetjes in U20 women's high jump.
Vincent Moore of St. Thomas finished eighth in the men's 800m (1:52.95) qualifying race and did nor advance.

ST. THOMAS - Railway City is heading to the League2 women's playoffs as one of the league's top teams.
Railway City clinched a berth in the post season and will finish no lower than second place in the Southwest division.
Sophia Lezizidis with two goals, Ashley Betancourt and Lily Ryder scored, as Railway City blanked Hamilton United, 4-0, Sunday at 1Password Park. Keeper Abi Valiquette with the shutout.
The win closes the regular season, with Railway City holding a 11-1-2 record in the Southwest.

BRAMPTON, Ont. - Two local athletes brought home bronze medals from Athletics Ontario U14, U16 and U18 championships.
Andrew Urquhart from Thorndale, took bronze in U18 men's discus, with a best throw of 48.99 metres, during the three day event, July 18-20 at the Terry Fox Stadium, in Chinguacousy Park.
Xavier Sauer of St. Thomas, leaped to a bronze medal in U16 boys high jump, clearing 1.73 metres.
A busy schedule, Sauer also placed sixth in long jump with a personal best (PB) effort of 6.03 meters, 15th in the 100 metre dash (11.99 seconds) and 20th in the 200-metre dash (23.71 sec.)
Sauer was one of 11 athletes with St. Thomas Legion Club at the championships.
Breanna Sloetjes from Strathroy, placed fourth in both U18 girls high jump (1.62m) and triple jump (11.02m).
Audrina Nicholson of Dutton, placed fourth in U14 girls long jump (4.36m), eighth in the 150-metre dash, 11th in the 80-metre (11.45 sec.) and 12th at 300 metres (46.75 sec).
Joel Sloetjes was fourth in U16 boys high jump (1.67m), seventh in triple jump (10.86m) and 16th in long jump (5.03m).
Aiyana John was sixth in U18 girls high jump (1.52m).
Nash Okkerse finished 10th in the U16 boys 1,200 metre run (3:26.08) and 17th in the 300 (39.91 sec.).
Charlie Halpenny finished 10th in both the U16 boys 100 and 200-metre and 21st in long jump (4.77m).
Harrison Halpenny was 11th in the 100 and 200 hurdles and 22nd in long jump.
Fletcher Taylor placed 16th in U18 boys high jump (1.60m) and 19th in long jump (5.63m).
Will Downing was 21st in the U18 boys 400-metre hurdles (1:04.27).
Brianna Scott finished 26th in the U16 girls 300 (45.11 sec.), 31st in the 200 (27.70 sec.) and 32nd in the 100 (13.84 sec.).
Ethan Atkinson of St. Thomas, with London-Western club, was fourth in U18 pole vault (4.15m).
Kirk Hallman from Thorndale, with London-Western, finished 21st in both the U18 boys 800 and 1500 metre runs. Hallman was on London-Western's silver medal winning U18 boys 4x800-metre relay team.

At the fourth twilight meet hosted by York University July 15th, Hannah McIntyre of Dorchester, finished second in the open women's 1500 metre run (4:35.28).

SPRINGFIELD, Ont. - The Tyson Tour made a stop at Tarandowah golfers club, one of its eight tournaments on the season.
Windy conditions and scattered drizzle welcomed golfers in the four divisions, junior (16-18 years old), juvenile (14-15 years), bantam (13 years and under) and girls (10-18 year olds), Thursday at the course just south of Avon.
Ben Grant took the junior division, with a four-over 74, two strokes lower than Will McEachern and Carter Maue
Ryan Johnson from Thorndale, tied for seventh, carding a 10-over 80, with a pair of birdies.
Mick Lucier is the juvenile winner with a seven-over 77. Owen Senese won the bantam division by five strokes, shooting an 84.
Avalina Flick handily won the girls crown with an 85.
Following tour's eight stops at courses in Middlesex, Oxford and Elgin counties, Sunningdale will host the championship August 18.

TORONTO, Ont. - Three Elgin County athletes brought home medals from the Royal Canadian Legion (RCL) Ontario outdoor track and field championships.
Mehkai Arnold, Ethan Atkinson and Xavier Sauer, all from St. Thomas, were on the podium at the two day event, July 11-12, at York University.
Arnold won a silver medal in U16 boys discus, with a best throw of 47.53 metres, just two centimetres behind winner Jaxon Goff (47.55m).
Sauer leaped to a silver medal in U16 boys high jump (1.78m), while Atkinson took bronze in U18 boys pole vault (4.25m).
Sauer also finished fifth in the U16 boys 200-metre dash (23.82 sec.)
Breanna Sloetjes, who trains with St. Thomas Legion, was third in U18 girls high jump (1.60m) and 10th in long jump (4.77m).

At the Canadian Track and Field League (CTFL) final meet, Friday in Ottawa, Hallee Knelsen was third in the women's 800-metre run (2:07.05).
The Malahide resident places second overall in the 800 for the season, from points acquired at previous meets.

ST. THOMAS - Mason Cowie is an international basketball player now.
Cowie with Canada Elite, a team of eight players, won the Quai 54 Futures street ball tournament July 4-6, in Paris, France.
Canada Elite went 7-0, with a victory over the Americans in the final.
"It was a really cool experience, met a lot of interesting people," said the St. Thomas resident.

WINDSOR, Ont. - AJ Stanat is a provincial shot put champiom.
The 22-year old from St. Thomas won the open men's event with a best throw of 17.31 metres, at the Athletics Ontario Open and U20 championships, July 4-6, at Windsor University.
Stanat also took the bronze medal in open mens' discus (47.35m).
Hunter Campbell, with St. Thomas Legion Club, won silver in U20 men's hammer throw with a personal best (PB) distance of 49.85 metres, placed seventh in discus, with another PB of 44.83m and 14th in shot put (12.59m).
Briana Rand, 21, from Dorchester, was second in open women's triple jump (11.81m)
Hallee Knelsen from Malahide, set a PB of two minutes and 6.61 seconds (2:06.61), finishing third in the open women's 800 metre run.
Knelsen, 22, also placed sixth in the 1500m (4:25.42).
Jadyn Luna from Thorndale, was fourth in open women's shot put (11.53m).
Dylen Belanger of St. Thomas, finished sixth, in the open men's 400-metre hurdles in a PB time of 54.31 seconds
Vincent Moore from St. Thomas, was eighth in the open men's 800 (1:54.58) and 18th in the 400 (51.38m).
Kirk Hallman and Ryan Johnson, both from Thorndale, placed 11th (9:13.86) and 18th (9:36,78), respectively, in the U20 3000 metres.
It was Hallman, then Johnson, finishing 17th (4:08.81) and 18th (4:09.99) in the 1500.
Mason Basson from Sparta, was 23rd in the open men's 400 metre dash (51.13 sec.)
Andrew Monteith of St. Thomas, was 33rd in the U20 men's 800 (2:07.15) and 41st in the 400 (54.32 sec.)
Stanat, Campbell, Knelsen, Belanger, Basson and Monteith, train with St. Thomas Legion Club.
Sixteen year old Jenna Tunks of London, won both U20 women's shot put (12.55m) and discus (46.06m).
Tunks older sister, Julia, won open women's discus with a throw over 60 metres(60.47m).

SAINT-GEORGES, QC. - Brody Mann (left photo) found the podium at the Canadian road cycling championships.
Mann from St. Thomas, took the silver the medal in the junior men's criterium today, the final day of the four day event.
Mann also finished sixth in the time trial and 29th in the road race.
Eve Buczkowski of Talbotville, finished fourth in the junior women's road race, sixth in the time trial and 21st in the criterium.
Ben Buczkowski placed 22nd in the U17 men's road race and 29th in the time trial.
Alex Fangeat from St. Thomas was 12th in the junior women's time trial.

Mann and Buczkowski will be representing Canada at the Junior track cycling (indoor) world championships, August 20-24, in Apeldoorn, Netherlands.
Both cyclists have a GoFundMe page, to help with expenses, the majority not covered by Team Canada.

TORONTO, Ont. - Hallee Knelsen is a double gold medalist.
The 22-year old from Malahide won both the women's 800 and 1500 metre races at the (U23) Canada Games Trials for track and field.
Today, Knelsen won the 800 in 2:07.16, an outdoor PB time, after finishing the 1500 in a time of 4:25.96, just off her PB of 4:24.72.
Knelsen qualifies for the Canada Summer Games, in St. John's, Newfoundland, August 8-25.
AJ Stanat, 22, of St. Thomas, placed second in men's discus with a best throw of 46.35 metres.
Breanna Sloetjes, age 17, with St. Thomas Legion, was fourth in women's high jump (1.60m).
Briana Rand, 21, from Dorchester, was fourth in women's triple jump (11.71m)
Claireese Coffey, 21, of St. Thomas, placed fifth in women's long jump (4.99m).
Sixteen year old Jenna Tunks of London, won both the women's shot put (13.49m) and discus (46.53m).
At Athletics Ontario Combined Events championships, Jadyn Luna placed fifth in open women's heptathlon (4,299 points)
The Thorndale native was second in shot put (11.34m), fourth in the 200-metre dash (26.95 sec.), javelin (29.75m) and the 800m (2:29.92), fifth in long jump (5.07m) and the 100-metre hurdles (16.04 sec.) and seventh in high jump (1.40m).

ANTIGONISH, N.S. - DJ Kennington of St. Thomas has his first win of the season.
Kennington won the pole and took the checkered flag at the Riverside 300, the second race of the NASCAR Canada racing series, today at the Riverside Speedway.
Driving his Castrol Edge Dodge number 17, Kennington led 147 of the 300 lap race, including the first 58 laps.
Kevin Lacroix and Will Larue took turns leading the field, before Kennington regained the lead for good on lap 212.
Kennington also recorded the fastest lap of the race.
"This is a huge win for our team.," said Kennington. "We rolled out a brand new car for this weekend and right out of the box it was fast. I'm so proud of everyone on this team. A lot of guys have been with me for so long. They all did a great job. And for Castrol and everyone that makes this possible, it's really satisfying to get a win with it in its first race.
Kennington takes over the driver's points standings.

LONDON, Ont. - Northdale Central had quite a medal haul.
Athletes from the Dorchester school brought home medals from 12 events at the TVDSB Valley track and field championships June 3 at Western University.
Brooklyn Samko, led the way, breaking the junior girls (Grade 5) record in the 400 metre dash, finishing in one minute and 8.79 seconds (1:08.79), and also won gold in the junior girls 800 metre run (2:50.03).

TORONTO, Ont. - Taylor Kana waited three years for this moment.
Since taking home a bronze medal as a novice in 2022, Kana has wanted to stand a top the podium at OFSAA track and field
The East Elgin Eagles athlete made her dream come true winning senior girls javelin, with a personal best throw of 48.03 metres, on day three of OFSAA Saturday at York University.
Kana led the competition from round one with an opening throw of 45.31 metres, a mark two and half meters ahead of second place.
Silver medalist Kaitlyn Pepper threw 42.63 metres, but Kana would have four other throws further than that measure.
Kana extended her lead to 47.32 metres, hit 47.43m in round three, before saving her best distance for the final throw of her high school career.
Parkside Stampeders Mehkai Arnold took home silver in novice men's discus with a throw of 46.52 metres.
Arnold had four throws over 41 metres (mixed in with two fouls) and led the competition until Noah Vanneck of Chatham-Kent, hit 46.89 metres on his final throw.
Dorchester Beavers Aisha Medina increased her school record to three metres (3.00m) winning a silver medal in junior women's pole vault.
Dorchester's Will Downing finished 17th in the junior men's 300-metre hurdles (42.81 seconds).

TORONTO, Ont. - For a few minutes Ethan Atkinson was holding an OFSAA record.
The St. Joseph's Rams athlete will have settle for a silver medal in junior men's pole vault, on day two of the OFSAA track and field championships at York University.
Atkinson and Christian Futo both broke the OFSAA record of 4.45 metres, clearing 4.50 metres. Only Futo manage to clear 4.65 metres, setting the new OFSAA mark.
St. Joe's Libby McCurdy added to her OFSAA medal collection, with a bronze in senior women's pole vault, with a season's best 3.55 metres.
From previous OFSAAs, McCurdy has all the medal colours with a bronze in novice, gold as a junior and silver a year ago as a first year senior.
Dorchester Beavers Will Downing finished eighth in the junior men's 100-metre hurdles (14.41 seconds).
Beavers Andrew Urquhart placed eight in senior men's discus (46.73m) and 13th in shot put (14.01m) on day one Thursday.
Parkside Stampeders Brendan McCausland finished eighth in junior men's high jump (1.75m).
East Elgin Eagles Louisa Begamann was eighth in novice women's discus (26.37m).
Parkside's Amy Williamson, battling a lower body injury, placed 10th in novice women's long jump (4.69m) and 18th in triple jump (9.54m).
Dorchester's Kirk Hallman finished 13th in the senior men's 1500-metre heats (3:58.01) on day one, missing qualifying for the final by one position.

LONDON, Ont. - The Dorchester Beavers made quick work of the Woodstock Huron Park Huskies in the TVRA tier 3 fast pitch final.
Eve Jackson had a two-run triple and RBI double as the Beavers mercied the Huskies, 11-1, in five innings.
Dorchester finishes the season undefeated at 7-0.
The Beavers scored two in the first inning, four in the second and the max five runs in the third.
Pitcher Tara Crinklaw, worked three innings, striking out eight batters, including the side in the third inning. Crinklaw only allowed one single and one walk.
Huron Park scored their lone run in the fifth inning, on a walk, hit batsman, single and passed ball.
Kailynn Morris went two-for-three including a two-run double and scored twice. Crinklaw had two singles and a walk in four at bats and scored three times.
